While working at Marvel on Spider-Man and other characters, Steve Ditko kept working at a smaller publisher, Charlton Comics, where he had more artistic freedom in a partnership that lasted some 30 years. There he helped create Captain Atom, Blue Beetle and the Question (later published by DC Comics and the inspiration for the Watchman comics, film, TV series and animation). Among the series he did there was Konga, based on the 1961 film about a giant ape. This four issue series is newly recolored by Mort Todd from Charlton’s original b&w stats. Steve Ditko’s FANTASTIC GIANTS #1 reveals the origin (one of a few) on how Kong went from a tiny primate to a behemoth. It also includes three other bonus stories from the Charlton era featuring other giant creatures from the brain of Ditko.
This edition of FANTASTIC GIANTS #1 is also available during crowdfunding for a limited time as a print variant with an unpublished giant ape drawing by Steve with YOUR name personalized on the cover.
